Safe Storage for Dangerous Goods
Introduction
Canadian Alliance is proud to offer two rooms specifically designed to store dangerous goods; one for flammable materials and the other for oxidizers. The storage areas were expertly designed in the interest of employee safety, regulatory compliance, and client peace of mind, and are key components of our cutting edge warehouse facility.
“Our strategy as a company is to help our customers identify and mitigate risk,” says CA President William McKinnon. “If we know that there’s a risk to deal with, we have a moral and ethical responsibility to deal with it in the most effective, efficient manner possible.”
Flammable Storage Room
Canadian Alliance’s flammable storage room has capacity for 400 pallet positions and bulk storage. In-rack and ceiling sprinkler systems are installed, contributing to a 2 hour fire rating. Spill containment is provided by a fixed 14-inch-high membrane, affording enhanced environmental protection. A specialized ventilation system addresses any exhaust emissions, while staff members trained in the compliant handling of dangerous goods provide 24/7 monitoring.

Dangerous Goods Storage
Dangers of Flammable Materials and Oxidizers
Flammable materials, including sanitizers, cleaning fluids, gels, and disinfectants pose numerous dangers, including fire, spills, human exposure, and environmental risk. Oxidizers such as hydrogen peroxide and calcium hypochlorite are capable of enriching flammable and combustible materials and causing them to ignite, with potentially disastrous results. For this reason, the two should never be stored together.
Despite this, highly flammable materials often go unrecognized and are stored with a lack of prudence. Many storage facilities fail to segregate their flammables from oxidizers and frequently neglect to declare them as part of their annual insurance coverage review.
Storage Rooms Designed to Ensure Safety and Compliance
In addition to the obvious need to address safety concerns, Canadian Alliance is committed to ensuring that our Storage Customers with Class 1, 2, and 3 Liquid Flammables and Oxidizers are compliant with all regulatory agencies at the Municipal, Provincial, and Federal levels.
With this in mind, Canadian Alliance retained the services of two Engineering Professionals who are qualified to quantify the risk profile and to design and build flammable and oxidizer storage rooms. The consultation and subsequent build addressed regulatory requirements and insurance risks, resulting in two uniquely compliant storage rooms.
The rooms came about as a result of CA’s recent upgrade to a more spacious and modern facility.
“We made a huge capital investment when we decided to move,” says McKinnon. “There was no way we were
going to move product into a new building that wasn’t compliant.”
CA OFFERS SAFE STORAGE FOR DANGEROUS GOODS
Safety and compliance are of the utmost importance to Canadian Alliance, which is why we go above and beyond for our clients. Our state of the art facility, expert staff, and commitment to customer service provide our clients with convenience and confidence.
“I think it differentiates us from other companies who are more willing to address risk only if it’s identified by a regulator,” says McKinnon. “They’ll store goods in regions where there’s less compliance, then ship the goods into other locations. There’s risk for the individuals who own these companies as well as the constituents around the companies if something were to happen. That’s not how we do business.”
